CAS D’ÉTUDES

CASE STUDY: MATERIALS
Granular mapping of Scope 3 emissions of aluminum, copper, steel and plastics for an Automotive Tier-1 supplier
- Mapped the main production processes and associated uses of energy
- Calculated emissions depending on process used, energy source, and electricity mix
- Identified relevant process changes, innovations or substitutions which could reduce emissions
- Estimated custom emissions of top 10–20 suppliers for each material based on technology, location, energy mix
CASE STUDY: BATTERIES
Regulatory analysis of subsidies available for EV battery plants for a European EV battery manufacturer
We conducted a comparative analysis of subsidy schemes for EV battery plants in China, the US, and the EU, collated a list of projects having received such financing with their main specs, and built a case for the client to request subsidies in EU, modelling the capacity gap of the continent to reach its targets.

CASE STUDY: VEHICLES
Sizing the market for alternative-energy rolling stock in Europe, US, Canada and Indonesia for a Mobility engineering firm
Two studies were conducted: (i) one focused on train and (ii) one focused on buses :
- Measured the potential market for engineering studies aimed at (i) shifting train lines to hydrogen or battery trains, and (ii) converting bus fleets to e-buses
- Assessed the potential for future electrification, and the policies/budget aimed at (i) shifting away from diesel-powered train, and (ii) supporting transition to e-buses
- Analyzed conventional passenger rail and freight
CASE STUDY: VEHICLES
Lifecycle analysis of passenger cars for an Automotive Tier-1 supplier
We mapped the full lifecycle of a typical passenger car in Western economies, from design and sale to dismantling and recycling materials. End-of-life was studied following two paths: (i) dismantling and shredding, and (ii) export to foreign countries. We collected data on vehicles exported and destinations, regulation pertaining to end-of-life in EU, parts extracted prior to shredding and their associated value, materials currently recycled; and conducted a deep-dive analysis on plastics recycling.

CASE STUDY: VEHICLES
Modelling the re-internalizing of critical electronic chip components manufacturing for an Automotive Tier-1 supplier
For various type of electronic chips, we assessed the timing, skills, costs required to manufacture them in-house:
- Market overview: location of manufacturing, main suppliers across the value chain (incl. design companies)
- Mapping of processes required for design & manufacturing of the products: steps, and durations in months
- Modelled scenarios for the development of various pipelines, assessing the FTEs required per type of engineering speciality)
CASE STUDY: INFRASTRUCTURE
Market sizing / go-to-market study for a smart charger in France, California, Texas and New York State for a smart charging startup
- Mapped the electricity grid ecosystem, value chain and stakeholders in the 4 States
- Identified grid balancing mechanisms and offers as well as the related regulatory aspects
- Conducted a market sizing based on the product’s distinctive features, estimated demand for such products, and position with respect to the competition.
Output included a benchmark of current solutions offered to business & residential customers to save on electricity bill by offering flexibility in their charging times and estimates of these potential savings in various scenarios.

CASE STUDY: INFRASTRUCTURE
Market sizing / go-to-market study for a new ballastless railway track component for an Engineering company & cement and concrete company
Client wanted to assess the market potential of a new ballastless track technology: prioritization of markets, size of the market in each priority market, qualitative insights on barriers to entry and key success factors
We analysed each market bottom-up: # of km of lines that could be either built or switched with a ballastless track, drivers of purchases and key stakeholders, expectation of key decision-makers
